Integrate with the Lego Prytz Polar Planimeter

A Planimeter can calculate areas of shapes, it is just what this creation do but it is built with Lego Technic pieces, one more of the machines and devices [ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5] that Nico71 has built.

As video description says:

"Modified polar planimeter of pritz concept.When the tracer point moves along a line (here the surface), the wheel follows a tractrix. Note that the path of the wheel is always tangent to the planimeter (here is the integration phenomen) The angle between the initial and final positions of the wheel is roughly proportional to the area of the surface. The constant of proportionality is the square of the length of the planimeter. The longer the planimeter, the more accurately the area is measured."

Nico71's mechanical loom at Fanabriques 2012

Perfectly recreated loom machine, for sure this will be hard to build and harder to adjust...

From the video description:

"One year of development, weawing machine based on mechanical movement, only one motor ! Displayed at Internationnal lego exhibition Fanabriques 2012 at Rosheim the 29, 30 june of 2012. During 2 days : 30cm lengh of woven material for 70m of raw string !"

I also love the 3 digit-counter and I don't know what exactly the thing near it is..

Lego Continuously Variable Transmission CVT

If you don't understand how the CVT (continuously variable transmission) works at this previous post...

This creation from Nico71 can explain it perfectly! Just watch the video, all explanation inside!

As he wrote on the video description:
"Based on modified version of Zblj's Transmission. This CVT enables a variation of the speed (and the torque) from 40rpm to 200 (1/5, 1/1) with constant speed for the motor (200rpm). The two mechanical tachometers show respectively the speed of the motor and the speed of the output."

And the rotation of the yellow connector shows when the torque limiter slides.

By the way since the previous CVT post I've found two more examples of cvt gearboxes:

The firs one is made by Sheepo that uses two conical surfaces concted with a wheel, as some motorcycles do.

The other cvt gearbox is a compact and very smart idea by Rob Stehlik at Robs Lego Design site

"My Lego CVT is a friction drive assembly, and it is really just a quick concept that wouldn't be very practical in real applications."

"These pictures show the full range of the white disk. One of the wheels is the input, and the other is the output. The speed of the output can vary from much slower than the input speed to much faster. Sounds real technical doesn't it? I didn't bother calculating the exact ratios."

Lego Technic Pneumatic Vehicle by Nico71

As a fan of steam and Lego Technic pneumatic creations this car must appear here:

It has all steam basics, boiler, flyweel, distribution valve and a "decorative" centrifugal speed regulator valve...

...Steering and pilot operated clutch!

Centrifugal Tachometer By Nico71

This creation is a tachometer based on centrifugal governor.

Using this principle the device give a fixed position for a fixed speed. Also it can be used to limit top speed of a function, to protect it from self damage or from danger of harming someone, like in steam machines.
